| Preliminary claim notification | The Warsaw Convention and the Montreal Convention are the laws that govern the legal liability of air carriers. These laws prescribe that any potential claim for compensation shall be preceded by a preliminary claim notification within 14 days in the case of damage or 21 days in the case of delay. These terms are reconfirmed in the Conditions of Contract, printed on the reverse of all IATA approved air waybills. In case the person entitled to the delivery of the shipment, fails the timely issuance of such preliminary claim notification, no claim action can be taken against the carrier.
