Corporate Social Responsibility
unitedkingdomEnglish | netherlandsNederlands
With more than 33,000 employees, 28,500 of whom work in the Netherlands, KLM plays a major role in the job market. We aim to be an attractive, challenging, and committed employer for these employees and for generations to come. It is for this reason that education and science get our full attention. In this regard, we are acutely aware of our responsibility to groups and individuals who are less privileged.

Our involvement in high-quality, stimulating education starts at the secondary school level. We participate in various projects for underprivileged youngsters. KLM supports the Global Travel & Tourism Partnership, which encourages young adults to work in the travel industry. We also have various agreements with technical training centers to provide places for internships and jobs. We fund chairs at two universities for education and research. And KLM has also introduced two new curricula at the NHTV Breda University of Applied Sciences.

Talent development

Throughout KLM, training and personal development get extra attention. One example is the KLM Management Traineeship, but there are many other programs that help staff develop their talents and ambitions.

At a completely different, but no less important, level, we cooperate with a special foundation for literacy (Stichting Lezen en Schrijven), encouraging employees to take this course. There are 1.5 million illiterate people in the Netherlands, which means it is highly likely that some of our employees cannot read or write.

Recent studies confirm that KLM is already a highly attractive employer. The Intermediair Ebbinge Image Survey reported that KLM was one of the top-5 favorite employers among students.
