Things to do
After flights to Helsinki, wander the city’s downtown, dominated by the massive white columns and green domes of Helsinki Cathedral. Climb the cathedral’s central dome for Helsinki’s best views of tree-lined avenues leading to the Gulf of Finland.
Shopping
Stacks of warm reindeer-hide mittens and colourfully painted wooden toys lie on display in Market Square. On nearby Esplanadi Avenue, purchase stylish housewares of glass and ceramic, souvenirs of a city break in Helsinki.
Restaurants
Generous seisovapöytä, or Finnish smorgasbords, allow Helsinki travellers to try a little of everything. Dine on marinated terrines of reindeer, mounds of smoked carp and fresh salmon, and crusty bread spread with lingonberry preserves.
Nightlife
Helsinki hotspots lie downtown, near the Gulf of Finland, filling with music and young people right after dinner. Whether in lively clubs or quiet harbour-front bars, visitors toast a short but magical summer with pungent liqueurs of Finnish cranberries, yellow cloudberries and Arctic brambleberries.
When to go
KLM has frequent flights to Helsinki. Plan your holiday around the Finnish Salmon Fishing Championships and Salmon Market in June, or the Helsinki Festival in August, when the streets fill with contemporary music, theatre and dance.

Prachtige opgeruimde stad in een zeer beschaafd land. Veel te doen, uitgebreide mogelijkheden om te voet of per fiets bezienswaardigheden te bezoeken. Prachtige eilanden in de baai voor Helsinki. Fraaie musea, prachtig muziekcentrum. Uitstekend en toegankelijk openbaar vervoer. Zeer gastvrije bevolking.Report abuseJoop - Finland

Een prachtige schone stad, veel bezienswaardigheden, en een zeer vriendelijke bevolking. Zeker een trip waard!! Vlieg rechtstreeks in 2 uren van Amsterdam naar Helsinki.Vakantieganger - Finland

De Uspenski cathedraal, de oude haven, het senaatsplein. Wandelen over de esplanaden en shoppen in het centrum van Helsinki. Voor ijshockeyliefhebbers is de Hartwall arena een must.

Voor een Oost-europees aandoende stad maken haar inwoners, de vele parken, de kleurige gebouwen, de vele kunst in de straten en de relaxte sfeer een bezoek aan deze stad zeer de moeite waard.Cornelia - Finland

Het museum voor Design kan worden overgeslagen, de vele winkels met design zijn veel aantrekkelijker (wel kostbaar) Een boottocht naar Suommolina, daar rondwandelen en koffie gebruiken bij Cafe Vanille zou ik op de to-do-list voegen! En vergeet niet te gaan eten bij Jailbird (in een voormalige gevangenis)

Visit the many islands leaving from the market square have something to eat at market square or market hall. Visit art galleries. Hop on a tram.

Helsinki is a beautiful quiet city that has so many things to do. Lots of trails for biking, running or hiking. You can pick blue berries along the trails. Nice clean beaches. Fresh fish. I really enjoyed my stay in Helsinki.Asok - USA
