Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta Airport is the main entry airport to Indonesia and serves Jakarta and onward domestic flights to the rest of the country. It's a calm, easy airport built in traditional Indonesian style, 20km (13 miles) west of the capital city, Jakarta. A bus into the city takes between 45 minutes and an hour.
The most economical way into the city is by using the Damri airport bus. There are a number of routes to specific parts of the city. The average journey time is 45 minutes or one hour. The buses leave from the airport on the half hour, every hour between 5.30am and 8pm. A single fare costs around Rp20,000 depending on your destination.
The most reliable are the Blue Bird Taxis. There are a number of versions of the Bluebird, from the standard saloon upwards. There are a lot of blue taxis in Jakarta, but only the Blue Bird group have the specific logo on their cars – a flying egg set inside a shield is the one to look out for. The Blue Bird taxis are metered and the fare should be around Rp130,000. Make sure it is clear who is paying the toll fee.
An airport limousine pick up service is also available and can be booked online. These are the Golden Bird cars, which are either large Toyotas or Mercedes 200 or even Mercedes S Class cars. The service can be charged to the hotel bill. Journey time depends on the Jakarta traffic and can be between 30 and 45 minutes. Cost varies from hotel to hotel.
The driving time between the airport at Cengkareng, Tangerang and Jakarta is 30-50 minutes. Car-hire companies are found in Arrivals at all terminals.
