Review of Bucharest
Bucharest
Flights to Bucharest land in a city rebuilding itself, with a Communist colossus close to the compact old city.
Things to do
On Sundays the choir’s choruses drift out of Stavropoleos Monastery, its tiny darkened interior awash with stucco work and frescoes. Flights to Bucharest also take you to Lipscani, Bucharest’s old city, where archaeological ruins lie alongside new bars and restaurants crowding its narrow streets.
Shopping
Tucked away off Lipscani, ornate wrought-iron gates lead to the cobbled artists’ enclave Hanul cu Tei, once a historic inn and now filled with quaint galleries and antique auctions. Look for paintings by local artists as a souvenir from your Bucharest city break.
Restaurants
Jaristea offers a taste of old Bucharest with live entertainment to boot. Sit surrounded by antique furniture, old paintings and intriguing curios, while sampling traditional local cuisine like baked carp with garlic and polenta, all part of your Bucharest holiday experience.
Nightlife
Join well-dressed locals at the Romanian National Opera, a Byzantine-style opera house and landmark of Bucharest. On your holiday, enjoy any number of classic operas and ballets while gazing up at the gold leaf ceiling and sparkling chandeleir.
When to go
KLM has frequent flights to Bucharest. Book your holiday to catch Bucharest’s top annual events like May’s musical EuropaFest, or July’s Targul Mesterilor Populari craftsman’s fair.

A city on the up02 May 13
Bucharest is a vibrant colourful city with too many cars and not enough roads. A mix of comunist-era drab; high-tec modern and faded historic biuldings give the city an eclectic mix, but non-the-less there is a buzz about the place and real sense that here is a city and it's people who want to shake off the past and mix it with the rest of Europe!tom - uk

Bucharest, an opinion13 Oct 12
Bucharest is certainly a grate city though at the moment in restructuring. There are many and very beautiful buildings that display scars of people that went through a dramatic change, elegance, and beauty. Even though not everything is in its proper state and there are quite a few errant dogs the boulevards, the gorgeous buildings, and museums should be visited. After a busy day through an even busier city the restaurants and terraces are the go to place for a invigorating meal. The food is good and the drinks are even better on a satisfied stomach. In fewer words, this is a city worth seeing and a must for those with fine tastes in foods.Report abuseTudor -
