Amsterdam Airport Schiphol
Regularly voted best airport in Europe, Amsterdam Schiphol Airport doesn't disappoint, with its sleek design and friendly, efficient service. With almost 50 million passengers passing through the airport each year, it is a major transport hub with a vast array of shops, services and entertainment. Central Amsterdam is 15 km (9 miles) to the northeast, less than 20 minutes by train.
Rail
Amsterdam Airport Schiphol train station is located below the Schiphol Plaza Shopping Centre. Amsterdam's city centre Centraal Station is between a 15- and 25-minute train ride away. Trains operate 24 hours a day, every 10 minutes between 7am and 11pm, and hourly overnight. Fyra is the high-speed Amsterdam Airport City Centre Train, every 30 minutes taking 15 minutes. Train tickets are sold at Dutch Railways (NS) counters and ticket machines next to the Meeting Point at Schiphol Plaza Shopping Centre and in the Baggage Reclaim Halls. Tickets to central Amsterdam cost €3.80 one way (€4.50 Fyra), €7.60 (€9 Fyra) return in economy class, and €6.50 (€7.50 Fyra) one way, €13 return (€19 Fyra) in first class.
There are excellent train connections to and from the rest of The Netherlands and other European countries from Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. The high-speed train (Thalys) also stops at the airport, which means shorter travel times to Antwerp, Brussels and Paris.
Coach
An extensive regional and local bus network services Amsterdam Airport Schiphol from early in the morning until late at night, with night buses on selected routes. Buses stop right in front of Schiphol Plaza. The regional express shuttle bus, Zuidtangent, is a fast and comfortable way of travelling between the airport and surrounding area. Shuttle Bus
The Connexxion Schiphol Hotel Shuttle serves more than 100 hotels in Amsterdam from the airport between 6am and 9pm, making it a convenient option if you are staying in one of these hotels. Tickets cost €16 one-way, €26 return. The journey takes approximately 30 minutes.
Taxi
Taxi ranks are located right in front of Schiphol Plaza Shopping Centre. Taxis with the 'Schiphol Taxi' sign charge from about €40 to Amsterdam city centre and accept credit cards. The journey between the airport and central Amsterdam takes around 30 minutes.
A cheaper option is the Schiphol Travel Taxi (+31 (0) 38 339 4768), which can only be pre-booked for journeys in either direction between the airport and anywhere in The Netherlands.
Car
Amsterdam Airport Schiphol is within easy reach of the ‘Randstad' urban conurbation – the area encompassing The Hague, Rotterdam, Utrecht and Amsterdam. The drive into/from central Amsterdam takes around 30 minutes via the A4 motorway. The rest of The Netherlands is easily accessible from the airport via the A1, A2, A4 and A9 motorways, which have good connections to Belgium, France and Germany. There are desks for major car-hire firms in Schiphol Plaza.
