Review of Melbourne
Melbourne
Take flights to Melbourne for laneway restaurants, boutique shopping and art gallery browsing.
Things to do
A stroll along the River Yarra promenade makes a relaxing introduction to a Melbourne holiday. Rowers scull past the Botanic Gardens and lunchtime diners clink glasses at Southbank’s cafés, overlooking the backdrop of church spires and office towers.
Shopping
Glass-roofed arcades and narrow lanes winding between Melbourne’s main streets hide an Aladdin’s cave of specialist shops and boutiques. Browse jewellery and fashion by local designers, or visit quirky home-wares stores for that one-off reminder of your Melbourne city break.
Restaurants
Sink into a velvet banquette after Melbourne flights, under softly lit chandeliers at tucked-away tapas bars or laneway bistros. Multicultural Melbourne serves up a global array of flavours, embracing Moroccan, Vietnamese, Italian and Greek, served with a Modern Australian garnish.
Nightlife
From hole-in-the-wall dens to lounges dripping with crystal and faux leopard fur, Melbourne’s bars run the gamut of styles. Join the dressed-up crowds at low-lit bars or rooftop terraces to order serious cocktails blended by a professional crew of ‘mixologists’.
When to go
KLM has frequent flights to Melbourne. Take a Melbourne holiday in March to join in the Moomba Water Festival, or book November flights for Melbourne Cup horse-racing.

A top 5 city of the world!24 May 12
I love this place - Melbourne is always busy. It has a reputation as the sporting capital of the world - Australian Open Tennis, Formula 1 Grand Prix, Million Dollar spring Horse Racing carnival plus AFL Australian Football during winter. Along Southbank river-walk there are many great restaurants and bars to explore. Crown Casino has entertainment for all ages. The Regent Theatre stages regular Broadway shows whilst a short walk away Federation Square is a nice meeting point for Melburnians.ExoticKoala - Australia

Visit or stay at the Langham Hotel - wonderful hospitality! Ride the tram to St Kilda beach for the sunday markets or Ackland Street cake shops. Experience a game of AFL at the MCG (Olympic Stadium in 1956). Visit Collins Street for designer shopping such as Tiffany & Co, Armani, Gucci & Dior.
