Start ushering in the New Year early – even before midday on New Year's Eve – and head to the races at Kincsem Park. Rock out at the Sziget Festival starting in early August, then gaze up over the Danube at zigzagging aeroplanes by day and lavish fireworks by night for St Stephen's Day. Contemporary Drama Festival

Budapest's Contemporary Drama Festival presents Europe's latest theatre productions at venues around the city. The festival also organises a free workshop for young critics headed up by Dr Dirk Pilz, editor and author of the online critical journal, Nachtkritik.
