St Maarten opened its four-level airport in 2006. Serving over 1.7 million visitors a year, it is a hub for many of the north-eastern Caribbean islands such as St Barts, Nevis, Anguilla, Antigua, Saba, St Eustatius and St Kitts. Situated 15km (9 miles) north-west of Philipsburg (the capital of St Maarten), the best way to get from the airport to the city is by taxi.
