The year kicks off with the Lima Foundation Week (12-19 Jan), with open-air performances in the summer sunshine in celebration of the city's foundation in 1535. See the beautiful purebred Peruvian paso horses at the April/May Peruvian Paso Gymkhana in Pachacámac, and celebrate Peruvian Independence (28-29 Jul). Lima's biggest annual shindig is the show-stopping Señor de los Milagros in October, where thousands of the faithful don purple for a huge religious procession. October/November sees the Feria del Señor de los Milagros bullfights.
