The UK's only urban rock festival, Evolution, features local and national bands at numerous venues, while in the same month, celebrate the region's food during Eat! NewcastleGateshead. The fortnight-long SummerTyne festival of music and arts on the Quaysides makes the most of the sunshine. Thousands of runners cross the Tyne Bridge in the Great North Run in September or October, while the December Winter Festival has a Christmas theme.
City Sightseeing Tour
3 Nov - 20 Dec 2009; Weekends only (various dates)
Visitors get a feel for the diversity of Newcastle and Gateshead by taking one of the two red City Sightseeing buses from Newcastle Central Station in the city centre. A multilingual commentary points out highlights, including BALTIC and The Sage.
