Kuala Lumpur International Airport
Malaysia's busiest airport is one of Asia's major aviation hubs, transporting 34 million passengers per annum. Kuala Lumpur International's twin-terminal facility is located 35 miles (56 km) south of central Kuala Lumpur, a 30-minute non-stop journey via the KLA Ekspres train.
The fastest way to reach the city is the speedy non-stop KLIA Ekspres service. It links all terminal buildings with KL Sentral in 28 minutes, departing every 15 minutes, seven days a week. You’ll pay RM35 for an adult single, RM70 for a return.
A business-oriented commuter service shares a line with the Ekspres to connect Bandar Tasik Selatan, Putrajaya and Cyberjaya, and Salak Tinggi stations with the airport. It departs KL Sentral and KLIA terminals every 30 minutes with a multitude of different fare tariffs available for the 36-minute journey. Tickets can be purchased from automated booths and counters at the airport and railway stations. Expect an adult one-way ticket to the airport to cost RM35.
The KLIA Express Coach runs an express service every 30 minutes between KL Sentral and KLIA via major hotels. The schedule operates from the airport 12.30am until 11pm with fares at RM10 one way for the hour-long journey.
Taxis should be paid for in advance at KLIA where coupons are issued at three separate taxi booths, in international and domestic Arrivals and the domestic baggage reclaim area. Travellers can choose from a budget taxi or a premier car with tariffs priced according to the destination zone. Expect a trip from the airport to KL Sentral to cost around RM70 (budget) and RM90 (premier). Join the taxi queue at door 3 for budget cars and door 7 for premier. A surcharge of 50% applies between midnight and 6am.
Numerous car rental firms have counters at the airport. All are located in the Arrivals hall of the Main Terminal Building. Drop-off booths are located at the ground level of Block D in the covered car parking area. KLIA is accessible via the Kuala Lumpur-Seremban Highway/KLIA interchange from the city as well as the Shah Alam/North-South Central Link Expressway. Driving time to the city centre is approximately 60 minutes.
