Restaurants in Nice

Terrace cafés cluster along the cours Saleya. Old Nice offers Niçoise and Mediterranean cuisine, while Central Nice offers everything from Japanese to Lebanese restaurants. Head to the promenade des Anglais for Michelin-starred cuisine at Le Chantecler or choose La Zucca Magica in Nice Port for the Riviera's best vegetarian food. Meals are usually served 12pm-2pm and 7pm-10pm. Service, at 12.5%, is generally included but check the bill.

Homely Mediterranean menu

The ex-chef of Le Chantecler, Dominique Le Stanc, gave up his Michelin stars to open the tiny La Merenda bistro in the Old Town. Slow-cooked lamb and orange-flavoured oxtail feature on his Mediterranean menus that are written on chalk boards each day. They don't accept credit cards (cash only).

Italian-inspired vegetarian dishes

La Zucca Magica along Nice Port serves the best vegetarian cuisine on the French Riviera. A relative of Luciano Pavarotti, larger-than-life chef Marco has a loyal following of locals that love his fixed-price menus stuffed with Italian cheeses and pasta. The pumpkin-inspired décor might not be to everyone's taste, but the lasagne should be.
