Protected by the Alps, Nice is characterised by hot, dry summers and mild, humid winters with few rainy days, almost no frost and rare snowfall. The sun shines for more than 3,000 hours per year. The average temperatures are 7°C (44°F) in January and 23°C (73.4°F) in July. Air-conditioned rooms are recommended during summer months.
