    Shopping in Johannesburg

Sandton's tasteful shopping malls appeal to the label-conscious, while Oriental Plaza in Fordsburg draws hagglers looking for precious Indian fabrics. Rosebank's daily African Craft Market sells original pieces to the sound of bongo beats, whereas Bruma Market World relies on loud traders for background music. Head for Illovo to buy food and wine from Johannesburg's oldest shop and to Parkwood for tribal paintings and beadwork. On Saturday most shops close at lunchtime.
