Transportation in Dallas
The skyscrapers of downtown Dallas rise abruptly from the rolling prairie of North Texas, with the Trinity River bordering the downtown to the west, the Piney Woods to the east, and nothing but wide open spaces to the north. Dallas is a sprawling metropolis of distinct city neighbourhoods, with smaller towns orbiting the city like planets in a solar system.Downtown, the central business and financial district abut the cultural Arts District, boho Deep Ellum, trendy Uptown, shiny and sleek Victory Park and the Convention Centre. Travel north to affluent communities of new money in North Dallas, old money in Highland Park, and academia in University Park. Head west to Oak Cliff and the edgy Bishop Arts District andsouth for arty Cedar Oaks.

Taxi
The best bet if you're not hiring a car, taxis are readily available outside major hotels and in the downtown business district. They are easy to book via phone or through your hotel.
Bus
Buses are abundant in Dallas. There is an online route planner, making it easy to find your way around the city, and you can get to outlying areas and Fort Worth easily by bus.
Rail
Rail travel is growing in Dallas via DART, a metropolitan train system, and via TRE, a regional express train. Travel by rail to attractions, shopping districts and outlying areas as far as Fort Worth and DFW International Airport. Most attractions and shopping districts are easily accessible via the Red Line.
Streetcar
A small fleet of streetcars, called the M-Line, connect the shops and restaurants on McKinney Avenue with the downtown Arts District, including the Dallas Museum of Art and the historic West End. The streetcars are free of charge and you can access them from the Cityplace Station on the Red and Blue rail lines.
Rent your car
Located at the junction of several insterstate highways, Dallas also has an inner loop around downtown as well as an outer loop. The car is the main way of getting around in Dallas, but you don’t have to drive downtown. There are park-and-ride sites beside Dallas Rapid Area Transit (DART) rail links.
Transportation Tips
A Daypass provides unlimited travel on bus or rail; choose between a 'Local' or a 'Premium' pass, the former for travel within Dallas county and the latter for travel as far as Fort Worth and DFW International Airport. Many of the top attractions and shopping districts are within a short walk of DART rail stations; online trip planning is handy for preparing an itinerary. Flash the DART pass at participating retailers and restaurants (noted by a yellow sign) for a discount on services.
