Review of Vancouver
Vancouver
Nature has been kind to Vancouver. The North Shore Mountains and Pacific Ocean beautify this Canadian jewel, and Vancouver's terrific museums and culture promise something for everyone.
Things to do
Flights into Vancouver quickly reveal the city's natural attractions, including Stanley Park and North Vancouver's Grouse Mountain Resort and Capilano Suspension Bridge. Book a ticket on Vancouver ferries to enjoy the city's natural and manmade beauty from the water, then travel to Vancouver's Downtown for the Vancouver Art Gallery.
Shopping
Vancouver is known for its fresh seafood. Buy some to take home on return flights from Vancouver at the Granville Island Public Market. Trendy shopping - including local couture and music - is best found in the West End or the historic Gastown district.
Restaurants
Vancouver city breaks famously include fresh local produce and seafood. The city's Asian cuisine is best in Chinatown, while its more eclectic fare is found on the West Side or in Gastown.
Nightlife
Buy a ticket to Vancouver live performances at Downtown venues like the Orpheum Theatre. For hip dance clubs and trendy bars, you can't go wrong in Gastown and on the West Side.
When to go
KLM has frequent flights to Vancouver. Watch world class snow sports at the TELUS World Ski and Snowboard Festival in April. A flight to Vancouver in July or August will include the international fireworks competition, Celebration of Light.

A good starting point08 Feb 12
Together with the family we toured Vancouver Island. Vancouver city was our starting point and we spent the first three days there. As a city it's everything everyone says - clean and friendly with great shops, a wide variety of good restaurants. In short, a nice city. A beautiful two hour ferry ride brought us to Vancouver Island. The capital Victoria was pleasant if a bit touristy. The drive up the east coast took us past some spectacular scenery but some rather uninteresting towns. We got as far north as Cambell River where we stayed at Painters Lodge hotel. Good hotel and we stayed five days, taking boat, kayak and bike trips, looking for wildlife and generally exploring the area. Beautiful. The hotels - in Vancouver (Holiday Inn), Victoria (Huntingdon) and Painters Lodge - were reasonably priced but the bed & breakfasts on the island were prohibitably expensive.Report abuseColin - Netherlands
