Review of Budapest
Budapest
Take flights to Budapest to dress up for first-class opera or take in eye-pleasing views of the Danube.
Things to do
River cruises on the Danube float past Budapest’s Castle District, where centuries of history are condensed. Gaze at the eclectic Royal Palace, gothic Matthias Church and the turreted Fishermen’s Bastion, while dinner is prepared.
Shopping
Walk from Buda to Pest via the ornate Chain Bridge, stopping to choose your gifts from the lined-up artists’ booths. Pest is home to Váci utca's busy high-street shopping scene and several historic markets, including the fascinating Great Market. Gleaming new shopping centres crop up across the city.
Restaurants
On your Budapest city break, order goulash and goose liver in the Jewish Quarter restaurants, where locals line their stomach before a night out and musicians play Gypsy songs for a tip. The double-distilled pálinka fruit brandy is sipped from tulip-shaped glasses.
Nightlife
Buy flights to Budapest for ballet and opera performances at the Hungarian State Opera House. After the show, stroll along Andrássy út boulevard to Budapest’s statue-filled Heroes' Square, flanked by the Museum of Fine Arts and the Palace of Art.
When to go
KLM has frequent flights to Budapest. Visit in August for the vibrant Budapest Parade or time your holiday for Budapest International Marathon in October.

Budapest is a wonderful old city that suffered through a period of time after WWII but is now a lovely place to visit. The Danube River divides Buda from Pest. Together they are the city. I liked Buda, which is high on a mountain.Travel Friendly - USA

Stay at a centrally located boutique hotel. I used the Zara Boutique. Good food, small rooms, but fine for sleeping. Clean, fresh, young staff.
