Review of Amsterdam
Amsterdam
Flights to Amsterdam bring you to a maze of quaint canals lined houseboats, mansions and galleries.
Things to do
On your Amsterdam holiday, hire a bicycle to explore the side-streets and canals in the arty Jordaan neighbourhood. Specialist shops and quirky galleries hide away down small-scale streets, and there’s always a cosy brown café to rest weary legs.
Shopping
Amsterdammers love their markets. At the vibrant Waterlooplein flea market, join them to browse for vintage clothes or jewellery. With over 300 stands, you’re bound to find that perfect souvenir from your Amsterdam trip.
Restaurants
Stepping off their flights to Amsterdam, visitors can find traditional neighbourhood eetcafes, bistro-like eateries, in De Pijp neighbourhood. Fill up on hearty dishes like crunchy bitterballen meatballs and hutspot stew, washed down with refreshing witbier.
Nightlife
Amsterdam’s nightlife is as laid-back or raucous as you want. On your Amsterdam trip, join music lovers at the landmark Paradiso club, a former church with two spaces for live music, from local jazz bands to big-name international acts.
When to go
KLM has frequent flights to Amsterdam. Book a holiday to experience the orange-clad festivities at April’s Koninginnedag (Queen’s Day) or the classical music-filled Grachtenfestival in August.

Like going home19 May 12
After living in Amsterdam for 4 years and having made the trip through Schiphol many times for business purposes, it is always a pleasure to revisit Amsterdam for pleasure. Amsterdam is NOT Holland, so if you want to see the real Netherlands make sure to take daytrips to the sea, the Keukenhof, etc.. But Amsterdam is a complex mix of old Holland, Arts, and History and the new. Nothing is more charming than renting a bike and peddling past the canals late at night, or sitting at the terrace of de Jaaren and having a cold beertje or a great coffee while time passes by. On every trip there is something new to discover and something familiar to come back "home' to. Discover your own Amsterdam and make it yours. Enjoy!Eric - USA

Always a Treats Despite Pickpockets09 May 12
My last trip in October was to act as guide for someone new to Amsterdam. We visited museums and took a cruise and wandered around to soak up the flavor of Amsterdam for three days. I found an antique clock in a wonderful little shop and even picked up Ukrainiann pemeni and pomadore.DDutchman - DDutchman

Get an I amsterdam City Card for lots of discounts if you are staying two or three days. Well worth it! The only downside to the trip was that I was pickpocketed for the second time in ten years. If the pickpocket wants your money in Amsterdam he, or she, is going to get it. Despite my efforts I was victimized, again, getting off the street car in front of the Rijskmuseum. My best advice is leave your wallet in your hotel safe, carry one credit card and a little cash around your neck and good luck. Get the

Bucketlist destination09 May 12
Its charm, its history, its allure, its sounds, and its sights.......Amsterdam surpassed every expectation. We tasted some of the best foods, walked along charming canals, and saw the most impressive art work......Hospitality reigns supreme here and the "frites" will make you beg for more. Amsterdam may be the gateway to Europe, but don't make the mistake to rush through it! Stop long enough to smell the flowers on the flowermarkt, or be blinded by the diamonds being cut! There is more to see and do within one square kilometer, than in most other world cities.Jon - USA

Exhilirating Amsterdam06 Mar 12
I had a grand day out in Amsterdam, a day before my return home. Amsterdam was a mix of the old and the new.. I was completely awed by the old buildings and the modern facilities. I had a great day of shopping and the street artists on the streets were so COOL! I will be coming back this April as I want to see the flower festival and Queen's Day.. I have a couple of orange outfits to choose from already! I wish I could spend a day more and experience night life in Amsterdam (hope to win the sweepstakes)ladie M - Philippines

Great town02 Mar 12
Amsterdam is much more than just the historic center. I had a great time in the newer parts of Amsterdam where I saw some great innovative architecture! I booked a hotel in the east of Amsterdam (hotel Arena) which was really cool. Nice area too!Report abuseLizard -
