Chhatrapati Shivaji International is South Asia's busiest airport, located in the commercial capital of Mumbai. It has undergone huge expansion and flies over 24 million passengers a year. The 35-km (22-mile) journey into the city's southern hub takes at least an hour by taxi – traffic permitting.

Specific airport features
Queues can be extraordinarily long, especially for night flights so take snacks and books to read. On departure, Indian rupees can only be changed with a receipt from a registered money changer or from the ATM machine where the money was withdrawn. It is worth having small dollar bills to change on arrival.

Terminals
These are useful guidelines only – always check in advance to find out which terminal your flight departs from. It could be a long wait for the shuttle bus between Terminals 1 and 2 (every 30 minutes), and the taxi journey can take 30 minutes on the congested streets. It is only a short walk from Terminals 1A to 1B, and from 2B to 2C.

Transport between terminals
A free shuttle bus runs between the international and domestic terminals every 30 minutes during the day and takes 20 minutes. International passengers must possess a confirmed ticket for an onward domestic flight. A taxi costs Rs110 and takes 15 minutes. It is an easy walk between the terminals within the domestic and international buildings.
Terminal 1A
Domestic flights operate out of Terminal 1A. The check-in area is on the first floor of the terminal building in Santa Cruz.
Terminal 1B
Terminal 1B, also in Santa Cruz, is for the plethora of private domestic airlines. The check-in area is near the front of the single-level building.
Terminal 2B
Most international airlines operate out of Terminal 2B, located along with Terminal 2C, at Sahar.
Terminal 2C
Some international airlines operate from Terminal 2C.
