Restaurants in Toulouse

Hearty regional specialities – cassoulet, foie gras, goose, duck and wild game – dominate Toulouse menus, but often with an imaginative twist. There are scores of good restaurants throughout the Old Town, typically open around 12pm-2pm and 7.30pm-9.30pm. Choose fixed-price set menus to make dining more affordable. All prices include service. The most famous is the gastronomic Michel Sarran. For a convivial brasserie atmosphere, Grand Café de l'Opéra is a Toulouse institution.

One of Toulouse's most appealing cost-conscious bistros occupies the street level of a historic 18th-century mansion immediately adjacent to the Hôtel de Ville (town hall). The bistro is ringed by the pink-coloured bricks of antique Toulouse, and set beneath a vaulted ceiling. Menu items feature contemporary twists of time-tested French specialities, many of them heralded by workaday diners who appreciate the attractive ratios of value-to-quality.
