Transportation in Minneapolis
The Twin Cities straddle the Mississippi River, with Minneapolis itself bisected again where the river flows through Downtown. Criss-cross the river to explore the area's varied neighbourhoods.Many attractions are clustered Downtown or around the Loring Park and University of Minnesota areas. The rail system links Downtown Minneapolis with the Mall of America, the Theatre District and the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport; buses, freeways and taxis link everything else, including St Paul.In the central area, including Downtown, you'll find the gentrified, retro Warehouse District, the arts-filled Loring Park neighborhood, and the flour-mills-turned-boutiques of the Riverfront District. Head south for eclectic Eat Street (Nicollet Avenue) and funky Uptown and Lyn-Lake. To the east, the college scene thrives around the University and Dinkytown; further out is stately St Paul, the capital city. Up north is the vibrant urban village of Nordeast.

Metro
The single-line Metro Transit Hiawatha Line train connects Downtown with the Mall of America and the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport; regular tickets are good for a single ride only. The bus network is extensive; a transfer (receipt), available from your driver, is good for unlimited bus rides for 2.5 hours.
Taxi
Taxis are a good alternative to buses when you're in a hurry, although you'll need to either call one or get one at a hotel cab rank. They won't stop if you try to hail them in the street.
Rent your car
Minneapolis has an extensive road network that is easy to navigate as it’s mostly laid out on a grid system. The winters can be harsh, so make sure your tyres have enough tread to deal with snow and carry anti-freeze and a scraper. There are numerous car parks and on-street meter parking
