Kairo International Airport
Cairo International Airport has undergone extensive modernisation. It is situated 21 kilometres (13 miles) north-east of central Cairo, and 40 kilometres (25 miles) from the Giza Pyramids. A taxi will whisk you downtown in about an hour.
The Airport Bus Service operates every 30 minutes from Terminal 1 to Tahrir Square, downtown Cairo, Mohandesin and Giza. The journey takes an hour. Fares on air-conditioned buses cost E£2. They are cheaper on non-air-conditioned buses.
Tickets for Super-Jet or Western Delta buses to Alexandria cost E£25-E£31.
The white Cairo Airport Shuttle Bus is a quick and comfortable way to travel to downtown Cairo, Giza, Haram and suburbs. Fares cost E£80 to the city centre, E£70 to Heliopolis.
Taxis operate on a flat fee basis. Official Cairo taxis are metered, white or yellow. The journey to downtown Cairo takes just under an hour (more during commuter rush hours) and costs E£80. Cab drivers expect a tip. Limousines are available outside the terminals.
Car hire through international rental companies is available at Arrivals in all terminals. Driving to and from central Cairo takes around an hour but can take twice that time during peak traffic hours. A 9 km (5.5 mile) access road links the airport and the Cairo Ring Road (toll E£5).
