Dubai International Airport
The Middle East's busiest airport, glossy Dubai International Airport flies more than 37 million passengers a year from three terminals. The airport is minutes away from Dubai city centre and some 170km (106 miles) from Abu Dhabi, the capital of the UAE.
Dubai International Airport has around 20,000 square metres of glittering duty-free retail space in Terminals 1 and 3. Stock up on alcohol, tobacco, perfume and make-up at knock-down prices and snap up designer watches and quality gold jewellery at budget cost. Buy books and magazines to read on the plane and pick up last-minute souvenirs like stuffed camels, embroidered shawls and pretty packs of dates and confectionery. Best of all, however, are the bargains to be found in the electronics sections, where prices can be as little as a third of those on the UK high street.
There are also small duty-free sections after customs in Arrivals, which give travellers their last chance to purchase alcohol before entering the emirate.
Free wireless high-speed internet is available throughout the airport from MAXSPOT, including the food courts, duty-free malls and lounges. The Marhaba Lounges in Terminals 1 and 3 have wireless internet access and PCs.
