St Maarten Princess Juliana Airport
St Maarten opened its four-level airport in 2006. Serving over 1.7 million visitors a year, it is a hub for many of the north-eastern Caribbean islands such as St Barts, Nevis, Anguilla, Antigua, Saba, St Eustatius and St Kitts. Situated 15km (9 miles) north-west of Philipsburg (the capital of St Maarten), the best way to get from the airport to the city is by taxi.
Buses operate irregular routes to both Philipsburg and Marigot. To Philipsburg, the fee is US$2. Buses depart from outside the terminal building.
Taxis are readily available outside the airport. They are usually unmarked but regulated by uniformed taxi dispatchers. Rates are calculated by zone. There are no meters and a taxi into Philipsburg will cost US$18.
There are several car-hire agencies within the main terminal.
