Minneapolis-St Paul International Airport
One of North America's busiest airports, Minneapolis-St. Paul transports almost 34 million passengers a year from two terminals. From the airport, 13 miles (21 km) southeast of downtown Minneapolis, the Hiawatha Line Light Rail transports visitors to downtown Minneapolis in 20 minutes.
The train is a convenient and inexpensive choice, particularly if you are travelling between the airport and downtown. The Hiawatha Line (Route 55) Light Rail Transit runs every 15 minutes to downtown Minneapolis (more often during rush hours), travelling 15 minutes between the terminals and about 30 minutes to downtown. The cost of a single ticket is free when travelling between terminals, $1.75 during off-peak hours and $2.25 during rush hours.
Super Shuttles (tel: +1 800-258-3826) link Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport with Downtown Minneapolis in about 30 minutes, and they deliver customers to the hotels or businesses of their choice throughout the greater Minneapolis and St. Paul area. Shuttles leave from the airport's Terminal 1-Lindbergh. A single fare between downtown and the airport is around $20.
Taxis are available at both terminals. The journey into downtown Minneapolis takes approximately 30 minutes (more during rush hours) and costs $38-$49. Cab drivers also expect you to tip, so add another 5-10% onto the final fare.
Drive to the airport terminals via Hwy. 62, Hwy. 5, Hwy. 77 or I-494, all of which circle the Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport. Driving to and from downtown Minneapolis generally takes about 30 minutes; during rush hour the trip may take 45 minutes or more. Car hire is available from both terminals.
