KLM and partners fly to Reagan National Airport and Washington Dulles International Airport. Operating domestic flights only, Reagan National is the closest to downtown Washington, located just 6km from the National Mall. Washington Dulles offers international flights and carries nearly 24 million passengers a year. It is located 41km west of downtown Washington.
One of three metro Washington airports (the others are Washington Dulles and Baltimore/Washington International), Reagan National Airport transports around 18 million passengers into and out of the nation's capital each year. The 15-minute journey into the city centre (6km from the airport) can be made on the Metrorail.
Shared SuperShuttles run to Union Station in the city centre and they provide custom door-to-door service to hotels and businesses throughout metropolitan DC. The shuttles operate on an on-demand basis. Single fares to Union Station cost about $14.
Metrorail is by far the easiest and most affordable means of transport to and from Reagan National Airport, provided you aren't travelling with more luggage than you can easily manoeuvre. The city's yellow and blue lines stop at the airport every 10-15 minutes and more often during morning and afternoon commuting hours. Metrorail trains begin service at 5am Mon-Fri and at 7am Sat-Sun; service ends at 12am Sun-Thu and at 3am Fri & Sat nights. Access the Metro station via Terminal B or C. A single fare to Union Station costs $2.50 and the journey takes 25 minutes. Amtrak and Greyhound terminals can be reached via Metrorail.
Taxicabs serve the airport 24 hours a day. Fares to any destination in metropolitan Washington are metered; the trip downtown should cost around $12-15 plus a 5-10% tip. You'll find taxicabs near the exits adjacent to baggage claims at each terminal. There is an initial $2.50 airport fee, a first-mile fee, and a charge per bag.
Car hire is available on the first floor of Parking Garage A, reached via a 10-minute walk from Terminals A & B or via the free Parking/Rental Car shuttle from outside baggage reclaim at each terminal.
Drive to Reagan National Airport via I-395, then travel on the George Washington Parkway South. Covered pedestrian walkways and free shuttles transport passengers to all three terminals and car parks.
Driving times to and from central Washington can vary greatly depending upon traffic. Midday it takes around 10-15 minutes, and around 30 minutes during peak periods.
