Spring is the star season: The blossoming parks and gardens turn Hamburg into one of Germany's greenest cities. North Sea winds have a reputation for making Hamburg a windy and wet place, especially in autumn, but summers are warm and pleasant. Expect 12-21°C/53-70°F in July and August, the warmest months. It's coldest around January, when temperatures can fall to -2°C/28°F, or below. It's not unusual for the Alster to freeze, so take your ice skates.
