While winters can be severe (averaging -11°C/12°F), really cold weather is usually restricted to January and early February, when ferocious central heating and terrifyingly efficient road-clearance will, in any case, protect you from the worst. April and May are warm, while summer months - June to August - see temperatures at 30°C (86°F) or higher. Summer storms in Moscow are dramatic, frequent and a welcome check on humidity.
