Review of Tokyo
Tokyo
Take flights to Tokyo for incense-filled temples, neon-lit nightlife and head-turning street fashion.
Things to do
Smoky incense wafts from the burners at the Buddhist Senso-ji Temple, where quiet contemplation of the five-storey pagoda reveals a traditional side to Tokyo. Japanese find out their fortune at the omikuji drawers near the entrance.
Shopping
Manga, cyber-punk and gothic chic - Takeshita Street in Harajuku is a hotbed of new trends and youth culture. Join the crazily dressed teenagers here at the weekend to shop for candy-bright street wear on your Tokyo city break.
Restaurants
Kimono-clad waitresses move gracefully between the low tables and tatami (woven mats) in the convivial restaurants tucked down Asakusa's narrow backstreets. Dine simply and well on home-cooked okonomiyaki (savoury pancakes) and spicy shabu-shabu (Japanese hot pot) on your Tokyo holiday.
Nightlife
Party-loving Tokyoites belt out karaoke classics, Elvis impersonators gyrate and expats sip pints in English-style pubs in neon-lit Roppongi. Pulsating DJ bars and live music venues immerse you in the 24-hour city after your flights to Tokyo.
When to go
KLM has frequent flights to Tokyo. Picnic under the blossoming cherry trees at hanami in spring, or hear the watch-night bell ring 108 times at New Year.

Clean, organised and breathtaking27 Mar 13
Tokyo is not just a city it's a metropolis. Haven't ever seen so many buildings, lights and people in one scene before! Reliable PT and unique food. We did a daytrip to Sapporo for Ramen Alley and it all went perfect. The nature around hole Mt. Fuji is amazing. Like Hangzhou, China, there's a Lake at the south west that's very romantic at dusk. I'm set to visit again a.s.a.p!!!Oneadonis - The Netherlands

Visit to Tokyo and Kyoto18 Mar 13
As we were visiting relatives sight-seeing was a secondary consideration. However, we did spend a weekend in Kyoto, the former capital of Japan. It is a centre of Zen Buddhism and has many temples and shrines. A feature of these places is the gardens which are very beautiful and offer a haven of peace from the hustle and bustle of the streets. The Gion is another area of old Japan and has many excellent restaurants. Kyoto station itself is in total contrast to the historic areas and is a good example of modern Japan embracing many restaurants and a huge department store. Tokyo itself is a huge metropolis with an excellent public transport system. Shopping is excellent. There are many good middle of the road restaurants. We particularly enjoyed French 'boulangerie' type coffee shops as a break from Japanese food.Ken - United Kingdom

If you can get away from Tokyo travel to places such as Kyoto and experience the world famous Shinkansen (bullet train).

An unforgettable trip29 Nov 12
Tokyo and Japan as a whole is an amazing experience. Everyone is very kind, although a little reserved towards foreigners and the level of English spoken is little to none. However, put in a little effort and you're sure to get a result. Restaurants are everywhere, shopping can be done in lots of places and you can easily get to your destination by train or taxi. There's nothing quite like walking along a street full of skyscrapers and suddenly finding yourself standing in front of a traditional temple. A warning though, hotel rooms are generally small for western standards and beds can be very uncomfortable in the average hotel. While getting to Japan is quite expensive, staying there is not. You can get cheap, filling meals for little money. If you were still wondering whether to go to Japan or not, please just go!DTryPleX - Holland

Is a really awesome country! there is a lot to do all the time, the only bad thing is that Japan is quite expensive. The food is really good. The arquitecture is amazing, from the ancient temples to the modern skycrapers. Tokyo is a must-go city!Aldo - Ecuador
