Nightlife in Nairobi

In central Nairobi, the most appealing introductions to Kenyan nightlife include the relatively upmarket Gipsy Bar. More visitor-friendly still is the Simba Saloon in Langata. For a quiet outdoor drink, hotel bars are generally the safest option - Fairmont the Norfolk hotel's Lord Delamere Terrace is the pick for atmosphere. Some of the places that stay open all day and night around River Road can be intimidating for first-time visitors.

A young, sexy crowd of well-dressed locals bumps shoulders with tourists and expats out for a night of "New York-style" fun in a place that - by local standards - scores high in terms of cool. There's a list of clever-sounding cocktails, atmospheric lighting, and plenty of deep sofas, and on weekends you can expect to hear DJ-spun tunes. Excellent Spanish tapas (for some, the best thing about this place) help stave off hunger as you try out various liquid concoctions. Open daily 9pm till late.
