Seoul - Incheon International Airport
One of Asia's busiest passenger and cargo airports, Seoul's Incheon International Airport transports around 34 million passengers annually to destinations throughout Asia, Europe and North America. Built 52km (32.5 miles) west of downtown Seoul on reclaimed tidal land between Yeongjongdo and Yongjudo Islands, Incheon's airport buses make the 90-minute journey into the city centre approximately every 30 minutes.
Rail
The Airport Railroad Express (AREX) goes to Gimpo Airport and on to Seoul Station. Express trains run every few minutes, take 43 minutes and cost W13,800.
Coach
The least expensive choice to and from Incheon International Airport is via city and airport buses, serving a wide array of destinations from the Passenger Terminal. Ask for fare and route information at Transportation Information Counters, located on the Arrivals level (first floor) at Exits 4 and 9 (indoor) or Exits 4, 6, 7, 8, 9C, 11 and 13 (outdoor). Standard limousine buses cost W10,000 downtown, while KAL deluxe limousine buses cost W15,000. Travel time is 70-95 minutes, or up to two hours during rush hours.
Taxi
Taxi stands are situated between platforms 4D and 8C outside the Arrivals area and are categorized by size of car (regular, deluxe and jumbo) and destination (Seoul, Incheon). The 50-minute ride to downtown Seoul costs W44,000-W80,000. Expect to pay expressway tolls of up to W17,000, which are the passenger's responsibility, and a 20% late-night premium from midnight-4am.
Car
Drive to Seoul's primary airport via the Incheon International Airport Expressway, a tollway reserved exclusively for airport travellers. Expect to pay between W3,850 and W17,000 in tolls, depending upon vehicle size. Rental cars are available through Avis and Kumho (which partners with American-based Hertz). Look for rental information at counters near Exits 3 and 14 on the Arrivals level (first floor) of the Passenger Terminal. A car trip to downtown Seoul takes approximately 50 minutes, nearly two hours in rush hour.
