Bonaire Flamingo Airport
Bonaire's small candyfloss-coloured Flamingo International Airport receives numerous flights from The Americas and neighbouring islands as well as direct scheduled services from Europe. A 4-km (2.5-mile) taxi- or hire car- ride takes visitors into the centre of Kralendijk in under 10 minutes.
Taxi
Numerous taxis ply for trade at the front of the doors to the terminal building. Standard rates apply 6am-12am Monday-Saturday with a 50% surcharge after midnight . Add a tip of around 10% - and allow for an extra US$1 on public holidays and Sundays plus premiums for non-standard hours. Expect a taxi to key resort areas to cost between US$10 and US$45. Unmetered taxis with fixed rates are in plentiful supply and provide a good alternative to car rental, especially for those wanting a guided tour of the island.
Car
Hiring a car is the best way to get around since Bonaire has no public transport system. A handful of car rental offices can be found to the right of the airport's main entrance, next to the car park. The journey into the centre of Kralendijk takes less than ten minutes, even in rush-hour traffic.
