Switzerland's intercontinental air hub is a favourite of shoppers and plane-spotters alike. More than 23 million passengers pass through stylishly revamped Zurich Airport each year. Central Zurich is only 12 km (8 miles) away, a 10-minute train ride.
Nothing is easier than taking a train from the airport station into central Zurich or picking up an SBB intercity connection. S-Bahn services run from the Airport Centre to Zurich's main train station every 10 minutes in peak time and you'll be there in around 10 minutes. The cost of a single ticket is SFr3.20. Passengers flying out of Zurich Airport can use the Fly Rail check-in service at more than 50 stations around the country.
Regular bus services operate from the bus terminal. Routes run to the centre of Zurich, Winterthur and Glattal and right across the country, departing at 10-minute, 15-minute, half-hourly and hourly intervals. A single ticket into the city costs SFr6.
Most major hotels offer a pre-ordered pick-up service.
Airport taxi cabs pick up outside the two arrivals halls. The journey to central Zurich takes roughly 20 minutes and should cost around SFr60. A service charge is included in cab fares, but drivers appreciate a small tip of around 5%.
The A51 motorway connects the airport with central Zurich, a drive of 20 to 30 minutes. Hire cars are available in the Airport Centre.
The no.10 tram (Glattalbahn) operates from the airport into the city centre every seven to 15 minutes, taking 30 minutes. A single fare is SFr6.40.
