Venice Marco Polo Airport
Venice Marco Polo Airport flies over seven million passengers each year. The airport is 13 km (8 miles) by car and 10 km (6 miles) by boat from the city centre. It takes 1 hour 40 minutes to reach St Mark's Square by waterbus and 20 minutes to Piazzale Roma by road.
The ATVO bus company runs a frequent service between the airport and Piazzale Roma in central Venice. Journey time is approximately 20 minutes and a single ticket costs €5. There is also an ATVO Fly Bus to Mestre train station (single ticket €5, journey time 20 minutes). Tickets can be bought from the ATVO stand or ticket machines in Arrivals, or on board the buses; advance booking is not an option.
Local bus service ACTV runs bus number 5 (mostly orange) into Piazzale Roma from a clearly marked bay outside the terminal; buy a ticket at the ACTV booth inside the building and validate your ticket in the machine as you board. Journey time is around 25 minutes with a couple of stops and tickets cost €1.30 for 75 minutes' worth of travel.
A taxi service runs from outside Arrivals to Piazzale Romana, seating six to eight passengers; make sure the meter is running before you depart. Prices start at around €15 for the 20-minute journey.
The airport is located 15 minutes from the Venice-Mestre motorway exit, off the SS14 airport road towards Trieste. Venice Airport to Piazzale Roma (where all traffic stops) is approximately a 20-minute drive. Car hire is available from all major rental companies, situated to the left of the Arrivals hall.
