Review of Hamburg
Hamburg
Take flights to Hamburg for boat rides through the port, exclusive shopping and St Pauli’s vibrant nightlife.
Things to do
Board a small boat near the Landungsbrücken pier and start your holiday at Hamburg’s sprawling port. Massive tankers and frantic container terminals pass, before the captain steers into the romantic maze of 19th-century brick storehouses that is Speicherstadt.
Shopping
The scenic Alster Lake, surrounded by some of Hamburg’s most elegant architecture, follows you as you stroll down Jungfernstieg promenade. Behind Renaissance-style arcades, shops sell chic fashion and exclusive jewellery to take back with you from Hamburg.
Restaurants
Flights to Hamburg open up a world of seafood. Overlooking the River Elbe, traditional fish restaurants serve garlicky mussels, lobster specialities and Hamburg’s very own spicy eel soup. The local catch often comes from the famous Fish Market next door.
Nightlife
Devote one night of your city break to Hamburg’s around-the-clock nightlife district, St Pauli. Exuberant cabaret stages sit next to maritime-flavoured pubs, while the sound of the Beatles fills the air, and they are even honoured with their own museum.
When to go
KLM has frequent flights to Hamburg. Travel in time to catch the port's traditional birthday bash in May or St Pauli’s vibrant Reeperbahn Festival in September.
