Chile is a country of startling contrasts and extreme beauty, with attractions ranging from the towering volcanic peaks of the Andes to the ancient forests of the Lake District. There are a multitude of very good parks here, and plenty of opportunities for fine adventure travel.
Chile is justly famous as the location of Torres del Paine, considered by many to be the finest nature travel destinations in all of South America. For anyone who has ever been fascinated by geography, the long, impossibly thin line of Chile has always produced a tiny moment of astonishment.
Chile stretches over 4,300 km (2,700 mi) along the southwestern coast of South America, a distance roughly the same as that from San Francisco to New York, or Edinburgh to Baghdad. At the same time, its width never exceeds 240 km (150 mi), making the country more than eighteen times longer than its widest point.

Valparaiso: One of the most atmospheric seaport cities in Latin America - a city with sinuous hills and a labyrinth of precipitous streets and colorful clapboard houses that inspired the poet Pablo Neruda. Located 112 km northwest of Santiago, Valparaiso is protected as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Among the most attractive places to visit are highlighted the la Matriz Church, Anibal Pinto Square, Sotomayor Square, the Courthouse, la Sebastiana house of Neruda, The Concepcion and Alegre historical district, The Bellavista hill, which has the "Museo a Cielo Abierto" or "open sky museum" and the 16 remaining funiculars (called ascensores): 15 public declared national monuments and 1 private which belongs to "Hospital Carlos Van Buren".
Chiloé: The quirky group of Chiloé islands, which are separated from Chile by the Chacao Channel, have more than 150 colorful and old wooden churches to marvel at – and 16 of them are UNESCO World Heritage Sites - as well as precarious houses on stilts lining the water’s edge.
San Pedro de Atacama, Atacama Desert: Old village located in northern Chile,105 kilometers from the city of Calama, in the middle of the Atacama desert. This oasis is the starting point for visiting several attractions, such as the hot El Tatio geysers, Moon Valley and Death Valley, the Atacama Salt Flat (home to beautiful flamingos), the Pukara de Quitor, the Puritama hot springs and the Padre Le Paige Archaeological Museum, as well as others.
