2 February 2009 | On 7 October 1919 KLM Royal Dutch Airlines was born. According to president director Peter Hartman, KLM is proud of its Dutch history. Reason enough for a year of memorable festivities!
We kicked off this special year on 1 January with the festive ‘Celebration Flight’. KLM staff members, business relations and 70 children from Stichting Hoogvliegers (the Highflyers Foundation for chronically or terminally ill children) with their carers boarded a Boeing 737-800 and a Boeing 777-200 for a flight over the Netherlands.
Even after this flight the celebrations will continue for some of the passengers: We invited everyone in the Netherlands to photograph the event, and the 12 best photos will win 2 tickets to an intercontinental destination!
We are planning lots of other activities for the whole year. These will not only look back at the history of KLM, but also look forward.
At 90 years old, we are proud to be the oldest airline in the world operating under its original name.
