Excess baggage?
Any extra baggage you take with you that exceeds the permitted free allowance is known as ‘excess baggage’. The standard excess baggage fee is determined on the basis of the number or weight of your pieces of baggage. The regulation that applies to your baggage can be found on your e-ticket under the heading ‘baggage’.
- Weight concept
Your baggage falls under the weight concept if this is indicated as weight in kilograms on your ticket. Then the standard excess baggage fees for the weight concept apply. - Piece concept
Your baggage falls under the piece concept if PC (piece concept) is indicated on your ticket. In that case, the standard excess baggage fees for the piece concept apply.
Arrange it online and get a 30% discount
You can arrange your extra baggage during online check-in. This way, you can enjoy a relaxed trip right from the start and also get a 30% discount on the standard fee charged for excess baggage at the airport.
You can arrange your extra baggage online no matter whether the weight or piece concept applies. The discount, however, applies only when weight concept is used to measure your baggage and not when the piece concept is used.
Baggage to be transported as freight
Pieces of baggage that exceed the maximum weight and maximum dimensions can only be carried as freight. You may make arrangements beforehand that the baggage be carried as freight at the applicable freight fees. For more information, please contact AIR FRANCE-KLM Cargo or call +31 (0)20 6498000.
- The maximum dimensions for each piece of hold baggage depend on the type of aircraft and range from 203 cm to 406 cm (length+width+height). This is why we ask you to contact KLM Reservations if your piece of baggage exceeds 203 cm.
- The maximum total weight of all your hold baggage may not exceed 200 kg (64 kg on flights operated by KLM cityhopper).
If approval is provided, there are a number of exceptions that may be taken along as onboard baggage. For this, you may get in touch with your travel agency or KLM Reservations. This applies to:

- Musical instruments up to 46 kg
- (non-)motorised wheelchairs
Sports equipment and musical instruments
