Physically challenged passengers

KLM offers special facilities and assistance for passengers with limited mobility to ensure a safe and pleasant journey.

In wheelchair

Facilities available free of charge include:

  • Assistance during boarding, disembarking and transfers;
  • The transport of no more than two pieces of mobility equipment per physically challenged passenger. This includes electric wheelchairs (on the condition that the request is submitted at least 48 hours in advance of departure and that the aircraft provides sufficient room for this piece of equipment).
  • A special cabin wheelchair;
  • The company of your guide animal in the cabin, as long as it does not require an extra seat;
  • Meals that meet special dietary requirements.

Passengers with certain medical conditions and passengers requiring care during the flight are required to complete special medical forms.

Portable Oxygen Concentrator (POC)

Types of POC allowed:

  • Inogen One (SFAR No. 106, Aug 11/2005)
  • Airsep LifeStyle displaying an RTCA sticker (SFAR No. 106, Aug 11/2005)
  • Airsep FreeStyle (Fed. Reg. Sep 12/06)
  • SeQual Technologies Eclipse (Fed. Reg. Sep 12/06)
  • Respironics Evergo (Fed. Reg. Sep 12/06)    


Reservation

  • You are obliged to make the request at least 48 hours prior to departure.
  • For the reservation you need to fill in a Medical Information Form, which must include a written statement from the physician certifying: 
    • The brand and type of POC
    • The medical need for using in-flight oxygen and the user’s capability of seeing, hearing and responding to the alarms from the POC unit.
    • The maximum oxygen flow rate corresponding to the pressure in the cabin under normal operating conditions. 
    • The duration of oxygen use in hours and minutes. Doctor and/or passenger are responsible to obtain the duration of the planned flight.    


Batteries for POC
You need to bring batteries for the duration of the flight, overlay and unforeseen delays. Batteries containing Lithium can be divided in two types based on the content of Lithium:

  • With a content of up to 8g Lithium can be carried unlimited.
  • With a content of more than 8g but not more than 25g, not more than 2 pieces are allowed and only when individually protected to prevent short circuit.    


Check-in
If you bring a Portable Oxygen Concentrator you can only check in at a check-in desk.
