KLM’s compensation service CO2ZERO

Besides our KLM’s own, wide-ranging measures in the field of CO2 reductions, we offer our customers a service to make their flight CO2 neutral, as a personal, voluntary contribution.

Did you know?

  • KLM is recognized best-in-class in terms of energy-efficient flying. Our track record has convinced WWF (Netherlands) to join forces with KLM to jointly demonstrate that things can also be done differently in the airline industry.
  • WWF endorses Gold Standard projects for offsetting emissions. This is therefore KLM’s benchmark as well.
  • Gold Standard focuses on renewable energy projects that have a demonstrated effect on CO2 reduction. It does not include the planting of trees.
  • 1 Euro by passenger compensated is 1 Euro directly invested through KLM’s own compensation service. All overhead costs are covered by KLM.
  • We offer low compensation rates (5.95 Euro per ton/CO2) in comparison to other compensation programmes. Example: a return flight Amsterdam-New York is CO2-neutral for 6.50 Euro through CO2ZERO.

What are we doing?

  • The service is available on all intercontinental KLM flights, irrelevant of point of origin, point of sales or embarkation point.
  • The service is integrated in the booking and online check-in process (www.klm.com) and can also be purchased on board on intercontinental flights.
  • KLM itself compensates all duty travel of its employees.
  • We will guarantee continuous and complete transparency via open reporting. While WWF is our chosen ‘watchdog’, the renowned accountants KPMG will verify the projects financially.

What is the result?

It is expected that 6% of our passengers will use KLM’s compensation service over a four year period.
