KLM and Boeing 737 Winglets
KLM Royal Dutch Airlines has a fleet of 194 aircraft. Our home base is Amsterdam Airport Schiphol.
Did you know?
- Winglets are mounted on the aircraft after construction has been completed. They are integrated into the wing tips as vertical extensions.
- Winglets improve an aircraft’s aerodynamic properties, thereby reducing CO2 emissions.
- Winglets minimize wind resistance by reducing vortices generated at the wingtips. Vortices create extra resistance and reduce the aircraft’s ability to climb.
- Winglets also reduce noise.
What are we doing?
By the spring of 2008, KLM's entire fleet of Boeing 737s will be equipped with winglets. All new Next Generation Boeing 737s delivered to KLM will already be equipped with winglets.
What is the result?
It is expected that winglets will reduce fuel consumption by about 3%, thereby reducing CO2 emissions by the same amount.
