KLM Sets the Standard

Corporate social responsibility is not a novel concept. Certainly not for KLM. What is new is our integrated approach to corporate social responsibility. We have set great ambitions in this regard. Together with Air France, we intend to set the standard for the airline industry. This ambition reflects the scale of our company and our market position.

To live up to these ambitions, corporate social responsibility must be integrated structurally into KLM policy – together with our businesses and by our businesses. The cornerstones of this policy are people, planet and profit, which have equal weight and are embedded in every layer of our organization. This all-encompassing approach ensures transparency, fosters cooperation, and engenders intense commitment. Our CSR objectives are partly inspired by the UN’s objectives for the millennium.

CSR Council

Corporate social responsibility is structurally embedded in the KLM organization. We have a CSR Council, for instance, consisting of divisional executives and representatives from P&O and Health Services. The Council monitors and clusters various initiatives, and serves as a sounding board. It is supported by a small unit, whose staff are dedicated solely CSR.

Collaboration is a Must

Corporate social responsibility is not something you can do alone. In addition to its integrated, internal approach, KLM works a great deal — in the Netherlands and abroad — with organisations such as the Dutch Social and Economic Council and SkyTeam.
