What KLM is doing
We take our social responsibility seriously. It is our ambition to lead by example.

KLM’s CO2 promise
With 2007 as a starting point, we have committed to compensate all increases in CO2 emissions caused by our growth. This means carbon neutral growth. It is also our objective to reduce our emissions by 3% by 2012 and by 17% by 2020.
KLM’s action plan
Reduce - We work to reduce carbon emissions on several fronts. We are constantly modernizing and renewing our fleet and taking eco-friendly operational measures in the air and on the ground.
Control - We actively support the European Emissions Trading System and the establishment of a Single European Sky in order to better manage CO2 emissions in the airline industry as a whole.
Compensate - We have joined forces with the Dutch wing of the World Wide Fund for Nature to jointly demonstrate that even in the airline industry operations can be run in a more climate-friendly way. Our promise is for CO2-neutral growth by means of reduction and compensation. And with CO2ZERO, we are pleased to offer our customers the chance to make a highly effective contribution.

Gold Standard projects
For compensating emissions, KLM invests in development of renewable energy projects, mainly in developing countries. On the advice of the World Wide Fund for Nature, KLM accepts only the Gold Standard benchmark.

What we can do together
We can all make compensating CO2 emissions part of our regular travel arrangements. To enable this, we have introduced CO2ZERO – the easiest, most effective and least costly compensation service within the airline industry.
