Excess baggage
Any baggage you wish to take with you on top of the standard amount is called excess baggage. The excess baggage fee is determined at the airport according to the number of pieces, weight and dimensions of your baggage.
You can find your baggage allowance by logging on to ‘Manage my Booking’ and on your ticket.
Arrange it online and receive a discount
Taking extra pieces of baggage is quick and easy to arrange:
- when booking your flight
- via Manage My Booking
- when you check in online
And it’s lucrative too: we’ll give you a discount of 20% or more on the standard excess baggage fees you would otherwise have to pay at the airport.
Arranging extra pieces of baggage online is possible only if your flight is operated by KLM.
If you will be departing from Australia, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Germany (Berlin, Munich or Frankfurt), France, Ireland or the United States (except from Chicago, San Francisco, Miami or Washington DC), you can only arrange your extra baggage at the airport. This means that the discount will not apply.
Transporting baggage as freight
Baggage items which exceed the maximum dimensions or weight can only be transported as freight by Air France-KLM Cargo. You can also use this service for transporting special baggage.
- Each item of check-in baggage may weigh no more than 32 kg (70.5 lbs). If it does weigh more, it can only be transported as freight.
- The total weight of all your check-in baggage combined may not exceed 200 kg (441 lbs). On flights with KLM Cityhopper the maximum weight of your baggage combined may be 64 kg (141 lbs).
- The maximum dimensions of each item of check-in baggage depend on the type of aircraft, varying between 203 cm (80 inches) and 406 cm (160 inches) (length + width + height).
