How does online check in work?

Enter the e-ticket number or the booking code you received after making your reservation. - Step 1 – Your information
After logging in, you will get access to your information. Here you will see the flights for which you can check in and the names of your fellow passengers. You can then select the flights for which you want to check in. You can do this just for yourself or you can also indicate the names of fellow passengers that you want to check in for these flights.
When travelling to the United States, you will also have to fill in your passport information and the address at which you will be staying first. - Step 2 – Seat and baggage
While checking in online, you can buy a seat in the Economy Comfort zone, a seat with extra legroom or a seat in a row of 2, if available.
Step 3 – Print documents
At this point, you are checked in and can now print out your boarding pass. If you don’t have a printer, you can e-mail the boarding pass to someone who can print the boarding pass for you. You could also print it out at a self-service check-in machine at the airport.
For many routes, you can also request having an electronic boarding pass sent to your smartphone, PDA, Blackberry or mobile phone with Internet access. The text message or e-mail you receive will include all the flight information and a barcode that you can have scanned at the airport. Some airports do not allow you to print out your boarding pass yourself. If this is the case at the airport from which you are departing, you will be given the option of printing out a confirmation document. You can then use this confirmation document to collect your boarding pass at the check-in counter at the airport.
If you have paid for taking along extra baggage, you can print out a confirmation for this.Dropping off check-in baggage at the airport
Once you are checked in, all you have to do before departure is to drop off your baggage at a baggage drop-off point at the airport. For European flights, you can drop off your baggage at the airport up to 30 minutes before departure. For intercontinental flights, this can be done up to 60 minutes before departure.Cancelling a check-in
