Terms and conditions for our preferred seats
1. Preferred seats allocation
1.1 Against an additional payment, we offer you – insofar available - a seat that offers additional advantages (for example extra legroom or in a two-seater) over other seats and which are indicated in check-in online.
1.2 We will make all reasonable efforts to meet your seat allocation requests for a preferred seat. However, we reserve the right to assign or reassign a preferred seat at any time, even after boarding of the aircraft, for operational, safety or security reasons. The final decision regarding your suitability to occupy the preferred seat resides with the check-in staff and the operating crew on the day of the flight.
2. Requirements and qualifications
2.1 In order to utilize a preferred seat, you represent and warrant that:
(I) you are at least 13 years old;
(II) you possess the legal authority to enter into this agreement and subsequently to be bound by the terms and conditions of this agreement; and
(III) when selecting to sit in the seats adjacent to the aircraft emergency exits, you are capable of assisting in an emergency situation and therefore have strength, dexterity, full mobility and do not take any medication that can affect these qualities as required by applicable safety laws and regulations. You are also required to sufficiently understand and speak the English language.
2.2 You further represent that all information supplied by you in order to request a certain seat is accurate and that you will not make any speculative, false or fraudulent reservation. You further represent that you will only make reservations for yourself or for another person on whose behalf you are entitled to act and which person also complies with the requirements set out in [paragraph 2.1].
3.1 In the event of a seat with extra legroom not being provided to you in line with the seat allocation, you are entitled to a refund representing the cost of the preferred seat with extra legroom, for that specific part of the journey, if:
(I) we cancelled your flight;
(II) we changed the aircraft type;
(III) you missed your connecting flight of KLM, Delta Airlines, AIR FRANCE or Kenya Air-ways;
(IV) technical problems with the selected seat occurred; and/or
(V) we used our right to assign or reassign your seat with extra legroom either before or after boarding for operational, safety or security reasons.
3.2 You can request a refund by filling in a refund form.
3.3 No refund will be made if you do not meet the above-mentioned criteria.
Some of our preferred seats offer extra legroom, but KLM hereby explicitly states that not all preferred seats offer extra legroom. Some are in a row of only 2 seats, in which case they can not be fully reclined. With this service, we offer a guaranteed seat selection in Economy class when and if available; there are no other product characteristics differentiations from other Economy class seats. Catering for example is standard Economy class catering. Please note that it is possible that during your flight passengers are seated opposite preferred seats.
Flying Blue and World Perks Platinum en Gold passengers may reserve a seat with a little more without payment when logged on as Flying Blue or World Perks member and identified as such by KLM. In all other cases, these Flying Blue or World Perks members may reserve such a seat at the regular rate.
