The comfort and convenience of our passengers is always paramount at KLM. Our work as a service organization, carrying people around the world, makes us deeply aware of the social responsibilities of a global company. One cannot touch so many destinations without being moved by the circumstances of the people living there, and the need to support organizations dedicated to assisting the less privileged in world society. With KLM’s highly developed communications infrastructure, we are in a position to provide a highly effective platform supporting these charitable organizations aiming to improve the position of less priviliged children in our society. We call this service AirCares.

Lornah Kiplagat proves that it is possible to integrate professional sports with social awareness. The Dutch athlete with Kenyan roots, who won the four world titles and holds various world records, is the founder of a running camp. The High Altitude Training Centre (HATC) in Iten, gives young talented Kenyan female runners the opportunity to leave poverty behind and build a career in professional sports. But the involvement did not stop at the gate of the HATC. Lornah Kiplagat will impetus to her socially oriented activities and seek out new missions for non-athletes. The goal is to build a secondary school in 2010 totalling 250 girls, who will get education during four years. To succeed Lornah Kiplagat founded the Lornah Kiplagat Foundation. | Lornah Kiplagat Foundation |

SOS-Kinderdorpen (SOS Children’s Villages) makes sure that children who have been orphaned or left on their own can grow up in a family. We care for these children in children’s villages especially built for them. Regardless of their beliefs, origins or skin colour. Here, they live with their own SOS mother and their brothers and sisters. In a safe family home made to accommodate eight to ten children. From their SOS mother, these children receive what they deserve: a loving upbringing and proper care. The ten to fifteen houses in a children’s village, along with schools, medical and social centres, form a closely-knit community that is also accessible to children and adults living in the vicinity. Thanks to your contribution, we can build a future of opportunities for these children. | SOS Kinderdorpen |

| Working together with Amsterdam’s VU (Vrije Universiteit) medical center, Kenya Airways and KLM Health Services, KLM AirCares supports a charitable cause called Doctor 2 Doctor. The program consists of pediatric specialists from the VU medical center who train pediatricians on a regular basis in an effort to improve child health care in Kenya. The VU medical center’s doctors and ancillary medical staff are highly trained and avail themselves of the latest knowledge in pediatric medicine – knowledge which is sorely needed in developing nations and can do much to help children with problems such as serious burns or congenital birth defects without the need for the latest equipment or facilities. Doctor 2 Doctor is an expensive program and can only function well if you help. You can donate both money and Flying Blue Miles through www.aircares.nl. | http://www.vumc.nl/communicatie/ |
