What is additional baggage allowance?
You can check in more baggage than the amount normally permitted for free by paying for it. At the airport, you pay a standard excess baggage rate for your excess baggage. But if you buy additional baggage allowance in advance, you get a 30% discount on this standard rate.

Buying additional baggage allowance during online check-in
When checking in online, you can purchase Additional Baggage Allowance if:
- your flight is operated by KLM;
- your first flight is operated by KLM and you then transfer to a flight operated by Air France.
- This service is not available, however, when you depart from Canada, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru or the United States of America.
This discount applies only when your baggage is subject to the weight concept used for determining baggage allowances.
You can use your credit card to pay for additional baggage allowance during the online check-in procedure.

Buying additional baggage allowance from KLM Reservations
Additional baggage allowance can also be purchased up to 24 hours before your departure at KLM/Air France airport ticket counters and at KLM/Air France-ticket offices. Yet another way to buy additional baggage allowance is to purchase it from KLM Reservations (applies to European passengers). When you buy additional baggage allowance from KLM Reservations, it will apply to any flight operated by KLM, Air France, Kenya Airways or Northwest Airlines. The 30% discount will apply as long as your baggage is subject to the weight concept used for determining baggage allowances.

Rules pertaining to additional baggage allowance
- Additional baggage allowance is not refundable. If you bought additional baggage allowance to cover 10 kg. in excess baggage, but your baggage weighs only 5 kg. over the limit at the airport, it is not possible to get a refund on the unused baggage allowance. - Additional baggage allowance does not apply for pets and sports equipment.
- Additional baggage allowance is non-transferrable; once registered in the name of a certain person, this name cannot be changed.
