For European KLM flights booked on or after 14 May 2013 we will charge a fee for checking in a first bag - in Economy Class and for some travellers only.
Any baggage you wish to take with you on top of the standard amount is called excess baggage. The excess baggage fee is determined at the airport according to the number of pieces, weight and dimensions of your baggage.
You can find your baggage allowance by logging on to ‘My Trip’ and on your ticket.
Bring more baggage at a discount
Taking (extra) pieces of baggage is quick and easy to arrange on KLM.com:
- when booking your flight
- via My Trip
- when you check in online
And it saves you money, too: we’ll give you a discount of up to 50% on the standard excess baggage fees you would otherwise have to pay at the airport.
Each piece of extra baggage may weigh max. 23 kg (50.5 lbs), and measure max. 158 cm (62 in) l + w + h.
Arranging extra pieces of baggage online is possible only if you are travelling with an AIR FRANCE or a KLM ticket on a flight operated by KLM or on an onward AIR FRANCE flight after a KLM flight.
Please note that when departing from some airports, it is not possible to arrange extra baggage on KLM.com. In that case, please go to the desk at the airport to arrange extra baggage.

Transporting baggage as freight
Please contact Air France-KLM Cargo if you would like to bring:
- Pieces of check-in baggage that weigh more than 32 kg/70.5 lbs each
- More than 10 pieces of check-in baggage (per passenger)
- Pieces of check-in baggage with dimensions exceeding 300 cm/118 in (l + w + h)
- Special, fragile or other unusual baggage
